Spell Jump

Your child hears a spelling word and types it from memory; a right answer is the launch power for a giant ramp jump. Missed words come back with a quick fix-it routine and return over the following days until they stick.

Why it works

The science we build on

  1. Retrieval practice

Pulling a word out of memory builds it far better than copying it. In the game: the word is spoken, never shown, and your child spells it from memory.

  2. Spaced practice

Practice spread over days lasts longer than cramming. In the game: words come back on a schedule (next day, 2 days, 4 days) until they stick, and old lists return weeks later.

  3. Immediate self-correction

Fixing a mistake right away, by yourself, beats correcting a whole list later. In the game: after a miss comes Cover-Copy-Compare: see what differs, copy it, then spell it once more from memory.

  4. No misspelling exposure

Seeing wrong spellings makes kids spell worse, even a week later. In the game: there are never wrong spellings to pick from, and a wrong attempt is cleared within seconds.

  5. Intrinsic integration

Kids learn more, and play longer, when the learning is the game rather than a toll before it. In the game: spelling right is what powers the jump. No "do homework, then play".

Get started as a parent

  1. Open Spell Jump, tap Parents, set a PIN, and create a family code. Join with that code on your kids' devices so their progress follows them.
  2. Paste this week's spelling words in Parents → Words of the week, one per line. To add a sentence, put it after two bars, like neighbor | | My neighbor has a dog.
  3. Kids play about 8 words a day. Check the Report on Friday to see how far each word has come.
